Rough Draft MC Launch Program Season 4 is for you.

This 10 week Program curated by established MC’s and music industry experts will be your opportunity to learn about technical MCing skills (cadence, flow, lyricism), performance and production, Music Industry topics (artist revenue streams, industry careers, grant writing, publishing, deal structures) and much more. With opportunities to record, perform, create and connect, Rough Draft 2024 is for any MC looking to elevate their game.

Who is this program for: Underserved emerging artists (ages 16-29) in the GTA and Halifax

Program size: 20 participants from The GTA and Halifax/Dartmouth

When is it happening: Thursdays, 6pm to 9pm (Mar 28th to May 30th)

Where is it happening: Split virtual and in-person locations in downtown Toronto (Unity Studio) and Halifax/Dartmouth

How much will it cost: It’s free.

Program Content

Creative / Technical Topics: Flow and Tell, Canadian History, Literary Terms/Devices,/Flow and Cadence, Styles of MCing/ ,Content, Song Writing, Audio Engineering, Recording Etiquette/Collaboration, Mic Control, Stage Presence, Rehearsal / Working with a Sound crew

Business / Industry Topics: ,Working with a publicist/ PR ,Building Your Team , Revenue Streams Industry/ Independent, Music Adjacent Careers, Grant writing, Professional Conduct and Communication, DSP’s, Social Media and Analytics, Contracts / Legal, Labels and Deal Structures, Career and Project Management and Working with a Tech Rider.

Music Production: Work with industry professionals, Unity Artist Coordinators and other participants to create tracks, mixtape and album etc.

Application process

  • 1-hour long virtual interview between March 9th and March 23rd

Eligibility Requirements
  • Must self-identify as underserved
  • Must reside in the GTA or Halifax/Dartmouth regions
  • Must be able to participate in 1 weekly 3 hour program for 10 weeks (March 28th-May23th, 2024)
  • Must be able to participate in both virtual and in-person sessions scheduled in your local community
