Since immigrating to Canada from the Philippines, Marcus has found a passion in spoken word while developing a pen with a penchant for intricate wordplay and imagery to tell his stories. With a desire to make each new poem his magnum opus, Marcus represents UNITY Charity, Uniffect, and The Messengers Slam Poetry Collective in being a voice for a new generation, seeking to educate and inspire youth while spreading a message of understanding, creativity and catharsis. In the same vein, he uses spoken word through his performances and workshops to connect with audiences of all ages, having performed in front of everyone from middle-school classes, to the mayor to a packed Yonge-Dundas Square. He has been a member of the 2010-2011 BAM! Toronto Youth Slam Team, the 2013 Yorkslam team, featured at Urban Legends and BAM! The Toronto Youth Slam, competed in provincial and national events such as the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in 2011 and 2013, and won Toronto’s first youth team slam, the UNITY Charity Free Your Voice Slam with The Messengers. He firmly believes that having fun isn’t hard if you’ve got a library card. He likes long, romantic, moonlit walks to the refrigerator.
